John Daily - Gallery | Trouble
2009
This work is a continuation of the What Is Not Life? series, however due to the scale of the work I gave it a separate album.
This was comissioned by Örebro OpenART, 2009, who funded, prepared, and promoted the project. It currently stands where it was made, in the shopping center Kompassen in central Örebro (Sweden).
It consists of ten 120 x 240 cm plywood panels, as well as two smaller panels in the middle, giving it a length of approximately 12.5 x 2.4 meters. All of the black elements are burned with either a gas-pen or a soldering iron, and acrylic paint was used for the gold and red colors.
It was begun on June 13th, 2009, and completed on July 30th, 2009, and took approximately 400 hours to complete. I was awarded the OpenART Award 2009 for it. (Two awards were given, the other artist being Susanna Hesselberg, whose work can be found on OpenART's website.)
