John Daily - Gallery | Corporeal
2009-2012
Aesthetically, these portraits are inspired by oil portraiture from the late 1400s to the early 1500s, especially by Dutch painters. As motifs, they are also inspired by the modern sciences such as brain research, biology, and medicine, which increasingly reveal how the influence of genetic and biological factors affect our personalities and decisions far more than many of us would care to admit. As well, they reflect feelings that are experienced as exceptional physical sensations, such as disgust, fear, sexual lust, hunger, phobias, or joy.
The first painting, "Node", was exhibited at Liljevalchs vĂ¥rsalong (Liljevalch's Spring Exhibition) in Stockholm in the beginning of 2010, and the painting "Princess" was exhibited at Art in Office in Stockholm in October, 2011.
